NDLEA and NCC Sign Pact to Combat Organized Crime

On Friday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at NDLEA headquarters in Abuja. The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration against organized crime, specifically targeting drug trafficking and intellectual property piracy.

Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, emphasized the connection between narcotic trafficking and copyright piracy, noting that criminal syndicates often finance their activities through these illegal operations. The MoU formalizes cooperation in intelligence exchange, coordination of enforcement operations, and technical support.

A joint work committee will be established to oversee the implementation and monitor progress. Dr.

John Asein, the Director General of NCC, described large-scale copyright piracy as a serious organized crime that undermines economic growth and deprives creators and investors of legitimate income. The collaboration is expected to enhance Nigeria's response to transnational organized crime and disrupt interconnected criminal enterprises that threaten public safety and the creative economy.
