NCC and NDLEA Sign MoU to Combat Copyright Piracy

On Friday, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja. This agreement aims to strengthen collaboration in combating copyright piracy and organized crime across Nigeria.

Dr. John Asein, Director General of NCC, described the MoU as a significant step towards enhancing inter-agency cooperation to tackle evolving criminal activities that threaten Nigeria's economy and national security. The partnership will provide a structured framework for intelligence sharing, technical assistance, and joint operational support.

Asein emphasized that copyright piracy should not be viewed as a minor commercial offense, as it is linked to organized crime that deprives creators and investors of legitimate earnings. Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, noted that the agreement facilitates intelligence exchange and joint operations, aiming to disrupt criminal networks.

A joint work committee will be established to oversee the implementation of the MoU.
