NDLEA Chairman Warns of Drug Dependence Emergency

Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has expressed serious concerns regarding the rising rates of substance abuse in Nigeria, stating that drug dependence is fast becoming a national emergency. Speaking at the third edition of the "Fly Above High" conference in Abuja, Marwa highlighted that the escalating drug crisis poses a significant threat to families, communities, the economy, and national security.

He emphasized that substance abuse adversely affects personal development and societal progress, which in turn undermines the economic security of the country. Marwa called for urgent coordinated action involving government agencies, schools, families, and community leaders to address the menace of drug abuse, stressing that it erodes the future of young Nigerians and requires a national response.
