NDLEA Chairman Calls for Community Action Against Drug Abuse

Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), called for increased community action against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

Speaking at the 10th Akinale Day celebration and the first coronation anniversary of Oba Oluseyi Ayodeji Adewole Adediran in Ogun State, Marwa highlighted the importance of traditional rulers, parents, and community leaders in addressing this issue. He warned that substance abuse affects all social and economic groups and urged parents to monitor their children for behavioral changes indicative of drug use.

Marwa also encouraged the establishment of community-based advocacy networks to discourage drug trafficking and support those struggling with substance dependence. He linked his appeal to the recent discovery of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories allegedly operated by a Nigerian-Mexican drug cartel in Ogun and Oyo states, urging leaders to scrutinize activities in rural areas and farmland transactions.
