DSS Seeks to End Sowore's Defense in Cybercrime Trial

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a request with the Federal High Court in Abuja to terminate the defense of Omoyele Sowore in his ongoing cybercrime trial, alleging that Sowore has consistently delayed proceedings. Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), is facing charges of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and incitement due to social media posts where he labeled President Bola Tinubu a “criminal.” During a court session on Monday, Justice Mohammed Umar presided over the matter where Sowore's defense counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, sought an adjournment, citing an administrative delay in the approval of a document necessary for examining a DSS witness.

DSS counsel Akinlolu Kehinde opposed this request, claiming the defense was intentionally prolonging the trial despite the prosecution fulfilling its obligations. Justice Umar warned the defense against further delays and adjourned the case until September 20 for the continuation of the defense.
