DSS Arrests Suspect for Threatening Peter Obi's Life

The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Udem Mondai Stephen, a 26-year-old teacher from Eliozu in River State, following a threat against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and other political figures, including former Edo State Governor John Oyegun. The incident occurred on February 24, 2023, when armed men fired several gunshots during a party meeting in Benin, Edo State.

Stephen, who claimed responsibility for the attack on social media, threatened further violence against Obi, stating that he would not be so lucky next time. The DSS initiated a covert investigation, employing forensic analysis to track down the suspect.

The agency emphasized its commitment to counter-espionage and the protection of VIPs, regardless of tribe or religion. Stephen is expected to face charges in court soon.
