DSS and Vigilantes Eliminate Bandit Kingpin Aiki in Katsina

A coordinated intelligence-led operation by the Department of State Services (DSS), supported by Katsina State community vigilantes and specially trained hunters, resulted in the elimination of notorious bandit kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki and more than 60 other suspected bandits during a raid in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. Aiki was believed to have masterminded numerous bandit attacks across Katsina and Zamfara States.

The operation was initiated after over 200 heavily armed bandits, led by Aiki, invaded Guga village, intending to retaliate against communities supporting the Community Watch Corps. The DSS had gathered intelligence that allowed them to thwart the planned assault, leading to the deaths of Aiki and 14 of his top commanders.

Four members of the Katsina State Community Vigilantes and specially trained hunters also lost their lives during the confrontation. Following the operation, the DSS and supporting security groups conducted a clearance exercise to recover weapons and other items left by the fleeing bandits.
