INEC Initiates Restoration of Delta Assembly Constituencies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the process to restore three previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta State: Isoko North Constituency II, Abraka State Constituency in Ethiope East Local Government Area, and Ughelli South Constituency II. During a stakeholders’ engagement in Asaba, Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren emphasized the commission's commitment to implementing court judgments and constitutional provisions to ensure fair political representation for the affected communities.

Umoren described the restoration as a constitutional obligation aimed at strengthening representative democracy. He praised the participation of traditional rulers, political leaders, and other stakeholders in the engagement.

The REC stated that the restoration would enhance governance and enable lawmakers to better address constituents' needs. He urged stakeholders to cooperate with INEC's technical team and called on traditional rulers and local government chairmen to facilitate grassroots participation and maintain peace during the process.
