Electronic Transmission of Results Mandatory, Says Rotimi

Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, stated in an interview that electronic transmission of election results is mandatory according to the recent amendments to the Electoral Act. This clarification was made during a discussion on Arise Television, amidst controversies surrounding the harmonization of the Electoral Act repeal and re-enact bill.

Rotimi emphasized that the provision for electronic transmission is explicitly captured in the approved legislation passed by the National Assembly. He noted that the President's office shall electronically transmit results from polling units via the INEC Results Viewing (IREV) portal.

The House of Representatives and the Senate have passed different versions of the bill, with certain clauses differing. The House has ordered a committee to harmonize the positions, which includes members from both the House and the Senate.

Rotimi disclosed that the committee has met extensively to review the disputed provisions, indicating a thorough consideration of the amendments.
