James Isaac Surprised by Super Eagles Call-Up for AFCON

Defender James Isaac, currently playing for FC Alverca, received an unexpected call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Coach Eric Chelle invited Isaac as part of 13 new players for the qualifiers, which commence on Friday.

Isaac, 22, expressed his surprise and joy at the call-up, stating it was a dream come true. He noted that he had been performing well in the Liga Portugal but did not anticipate the invitation so soon.

Isaac aims to compete for a left-back position against established players like Bruno Onyemaechi and Ola Aina. He joined FC Alverca in July 2025 after a season with Lorient, where he made seven appearances and provided two assists.

His career began with trials at Danish club Midtjylland and later Lorient, where he made his professional debut in August 2024. Isaac has been a significant player in his club's journey, contributing to their success in the league.
