Super Eagles Arrive in Bissau for AFCON Qualifier Match

The Super Eagles arrived in Bissau on Sunday ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, scheduled for Tuesday. They opened their campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo, where they initially fell behind to Ehsan Kari’s 16th-minute goal.

However, debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored in either half to secure the victory for Nigeria. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made a crucial second-half save to maintain the Eagles' chances before Usor netted the winner.

The team held a closed training session at 10 am on Sunday before departing for the airport at 2 pm for their 3 pm flight to Bissau. Guinea-Bissau also won their opening match, defeating co-hosts Tanzania 2-0.

Both teams seek to strengthen their positions in Group L, where only one team will secure automatic qualification due to Tanzania's co-host status. Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau previously met in the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON, with each team winning once away from home.

Eric Chelle will conduct a training session in Bissau on Monday ahead of the match at the Estádio 24 de Setembro, kicking off at 5 pm Nigerian time.
