Nigeria Enhances Ebola Screening at Major Airport

In response to renewed concerns over an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Nigerian authorities have flagged airlines from high-risk countries and implemented enhanced screening procedures for passengers arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Lagos State health officials, including Prof. Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, and Dr. Abdullahi Lawal, head of the Port Health Services, conducted a comprehensive risk assessment to evaluate the airport's preparedness.

The assessment is part of a broader emergency response framework aimed at early detection and management of suspected Ebola cases. Officials emphasized the importance of strict compliance with health safety protocols and the need for immediate reporting of any Ebola-related symptoms observed among passengers.

The measures are designed to prevent the spread of the infectious disease as part of Nigeria's commitment to public health safety.
