Nigeria Enhances Ebola Screening Amid Outbreak Concerns

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced enhanced health screening measures at the country's airports, seaports, and land borders to prevent the entry of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus. This decision comes amid growing concerns about the outbreak in East and Central Africa.

A statement issued on Tuesday, signed by Ado Bako, Assistant Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, emphasized that there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria. The government is committed to strengthening national health security and preventing cross-border disease transmission.

Measures include mandatory temperature checks using infrared thermal scanners and secondary screening for travelers displaying symptoms associated with viral hemorrhagic fever. The Ministry of Health has urged Nigerians not to panic and to maintain high hygiene standards, avoid contact with symptomatic individuals, and report unusual illnesses or deaths to health authorities.
