FAAN and Lagos Enhance Ebola Screening at Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and health officials from Lagos State have strengthened Ebola screening protocols at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) to prevent the importation of the virus, particularly in light of a recent outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A joint inspection was conducted to assess the airport's readiness to detect and respond to potential Ebola threats.

Key figures involved in this initiative include Henri Agbebir, Director of Public Affairs at FAAN; Prof. Emmanuel Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health; Mr.

Olatokunbo Arewa, General Manager of Aviation Medicine at FAAN; and Dr. Ibrahim Bilikisu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

The inspection emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and stricter surveillance, especially for passengers arriving from high-risk countries. The collaboration among relevant agencies is crucial to maintaining compliance with established public health protocols and ensuring immediate action in response to any Ebola symptoms detected at the airport.
