Nigeria's NCDC Traces Ebola Contacts Amid Outbreak Scare

In response to a confirmed case of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in Nigeria, states have activated response centres previously used during the last outbreak 12 years ago. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), led by Dr Jide Idris, has identified 53 primary contacts linked to the case, with 44 associated with the health facility where the index patient was treated.
The Kaduna State Ministry of Health has intensified its preparedness efforts, holding a Rapid Response Team meeting on October 21 to enhance disease surveillance and outbreak response. Dr Jeremiah Daikwo, the State Epidemiologist, urged readiness among all pillar leads.
In Benue State, Commissioner for Health Dr Paul Ogwuche confirmed no cases but emphasized reinforced surveillance across all local government areas. Jos University Teaching Hospital's Dr Pokop Wushipba Bupwatda stated the facility is prepared for emergencies, with a trained Disease Infection Control and Prevention Committee in place.
Government hospitals in Ilorin, Kwara State, have also implemented preventive measures.
