Bishop Peter Chukwu of Abakaliki Diocese Dies at 60

Rev. Peter Chukwu, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, died at the age of 60.

His passing was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the diocese, which was signed by the vicar general, Rev. Fr.

Donatus Chukwu. Bishop Chukwu, who hailed from Ededeagu Umuezeokohu in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was born on November 5, 1965, and was ordained a priest on July 3, 1993.

He dedicated a decade of his life to pastoral service and played a significant role in the growth of the Catholic faith within the diocese. His episcopal journey culminated in his consecration and installation as the third bishop of the diocese on August 19, 2021.

Known for his strong commitment to evangelism and pastoral care, Bishop Chukwu left a lasting impact on the clergy and laity alike. The diocese has called for prayers and support for the entire diocesan family during this mourning period, with funeral arrangements to be announced at a later date.
