Ebonyi State Lifts Amasiri Curfew, Reopens Schools

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has lifted the curfew imposed on Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area, which was initiated due to unrest following a deadly attack linked to a long-standing land dispute. The curfew, initially set at 20 hours, was later reduced to 12 hours before being completely lifted.

This decision came after a meeting of the state security council, which included security chiefs who reviewed the situation and assessed the progress made in dialogue among the affected communities. Despite the lifting of the curfew, a minimal security presence will remain to maintain peace and prevent a resurgence of violence.

The state attorney general, Ben Odoh, indicated that suspects involved in the violence would soon be charged in court. Additionally, schools and healthcare facilities in the area have been reopened as part of efforts to restore normalcy, with public servants redeployed to their posts.

The governor reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting lives and property.
