Ebonyi Police Break Child-Trafficking Ring, Recover Kids

The Ebonyi State Police Command has successfully dismantled a suspected child-trafficking syndicate operating across Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states. Following months of investigation into child abduction cases, the police arrested several suspects and recovered three abducted children.

The investigation began after Mrs. Ngwe Ukamaka reported in May 2026 that her two children, a five-month-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, were abducted after she was deceived under the guise of marriage. She was taken to Awgu, Enugu State, where she was misled into leaving her children behind.

On August 14, 2026, police operatives arrested four suspects: Agu Okechukwu, Ndidi Kenneth Nwanga, Ugonma Igwe, and Alagba Chinyere, during a separate child abduction attempt. One suspect, Agu, allegedly lured Mrs. Oluchi Onah to Enugu with false employment promises, separating her from her two-year-old child.

The police investigation led to the recovery of Mrs. Onah's child, who has been reunited with her family, and a three-year-old child, reportedly sold for N2.5 million.
