Oyo Police Rescue 17 Children from Trafficking Syndicate

On Tuesday, the Oyo State Police Commissioner, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, announced the rescue of 17 children from an alleged inter-state human trafficking syndicate. Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the case, which stemmed from a petition submitted on July 29, 2026, by Adejoke Popoola, also known as Orente Alagbo.

The petition raised concerns about conspiracy and child theft. Investigations revealed that a three-year-old child, Ifakunle Ifagbenro, went missing during a masquerade festival on June 29, 2026, after being taken by Adejoke.

She was arrested on August 4, 2026, and admitted to stealing over 15 children. Adekanbi Janet, also known as Hosanna, was identified as her accomplice and was arrested in Ogun State, where four children and two pregnant women were rescued.

Adekanbi acknowledged her long-term involvement in child theft but denied having custody of Ifakunle.
