ECOWAS Court Launches 2026-2030 Justice Strategy

On Friday, the ECOWAS Court of Justice unveiled its five-year strategic plan for 2026-2030 in Abuja, aimed at strengthening the rule of law and improving access to justice while advancing regional integration across West Africa. President Ricardo Goncalv described the plan as a turning point for the institution, affirming its commitment to enhancing its role as a guarantor of justice, which is vital for regional stability.

The strategy focuses on institutional transformation, efficiency improvement, and greater impact on citizens' lives within the ECOWAS community. Goncalv highlighted that the success of the plan relies on coordinated actions among institutions and the responsibility of judges and staff.

The plan includes five strategic goals: ensuring timely justice, expanding access to justice, promoting alternative dispute resolution, advancing human rights protection, and ensuring stakeholder engagement. The new strategy replaces the previous framework and addresses emerging legal challenges in the West African region.
