ECOWAS Court Unveils 2026-2030 Strategic Justice Plan

The ECOWAS Court of Justice officially launched its five-year strategic plan for 2026-2030 in Abuja, designed to deepen justice and regional integration across West Africa. The court's president, Ricardo Goncalv, described this strategy as a pivotal moment for the institution, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding justice and promoting stability in the region.

The plan outlines a vision to transform the court's operations, focusing on improving access to justice and ensuring the rule of law is upheld. Goncalv highlighted the importance of collaboration among judges, court staff, and regional stakeholders to achieve the plan's objectives.

The strategic plan, developed through extensive consultations, includes five key goals: ensuring timely and impartial justice, expanding access to justice, strengthening human rights protections, improving transparency, and enhancing institutional capacity. Deputy Registrar Mari Sain noted that the roadmap aims to respond effectively to emerging legal governance challenges in West Africa, positioning the court as a vital institution for justice and peace in the region.
