ECOWAS Provides Assistive Devices to Nigerian Children

On Thursday in Abuja, ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to disability inclusion by handing over assistive devices to children with disabilities in Nigeria. This event was part of a broader ECOWAS regional assistive device program aimed at improving access to essential assistive technology for children with disabilities across West Africa.

Professor Fatou Sow Sarr, from the ECOWAS Commission for Human Development and Social Affairs, emphasized that access to assistive technology remains a significant challenge in the region, despite being recognized as a fundamental human right. Mr.

Moham Isah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, described the donation as a demonstration of ECOWAS's commitment to promoting social inclusion and improving the quality of life for beneficiaries. Mr.

Ayuba Gufwan, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, called the handover a landmark achievement in Nigeria's efforts to expand access to assistive technology. The initiative also aims to foster collaboration among countries in the region to improve disability inclusion policies.
