Edo Assembly Sets 4-Month Deadline for BEDC Improvement

The Edo State House of Assembly has directed the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to enhance electricity supply within a four-month timeframe. This directive was issued during a session where BEDC's management appeared before lawmakers to address complaints regarding inconsistent power supply.

Speaker Bless Agbebaku highlighted the residents' dissatisfaction with BEDC's services and urged immediate action to rectify the situation, warning that failure to improve could lead to protests. Akinyel Ogunley, BEDC's commercial officer, attributed the poor supply to low electricity allocation from the national grid, stating that the company receives less than 300 megawatts to serve four states, which is inadequate to meet demand.

Additionally, the House confirmed the appointment of Charl Onobvayo as the Executive Director of the Edo Ecological Fund Management Commission.
