PDP Condemns Edo Governor for Threats Against Opposition

The Edo State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement condemning Governor Mondai Okpebholo for threats and intimidation directed at opposition members, warning that the state is on the brink of political anarchy. The statement, signed by the party's public secretary Dan Osa Ogbegi, accused Okpebholo of engaging in dangerous political brinkmanship following allegations that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) promotes cultism.

The PDP emphasized that no governor has the constitutional right to criminalize opposition members without evidence. The statement also referenced a recent incident in Benin City where Olumid Akpata of the ADC allegedly declared armed individuals to intimidate opposition leaders, including Chief John Odigi Oyegun, who survived an assassination attempt.

The PDP urged Okpebholo to retract his threats and called for a transparent investigation by security agencies into the violent incidents, stressing the need for professionalism and impartiality in law enforcement.
