Edo Government Criticizes Davido's Trump Appeal on Osun Poll

The Edo State Government has publicly criticized Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, known as Davido, for his call to U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene in the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15.

During a press briefing in Benin City on Thursday, Edo Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, labeled Davido’s appeal as “arrant nonsense.” Davido expressed concerns about potential violence and disruption during the election and urged international stakeholders to monitor the process. Afegbua questioned Davido's involvement in politics, suggesting he should concentrate on his music career and aim for another Grammy Award.

He defended Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo's decision to campaign for the All Progressives Congress candidate, asserting that political actors have the right to support their party. Afegbua also dismissed online claims regarding Governor Okpebholo’s academic qualifications and criticized Davido for diverting his focus from music to politics, emphasizing that Nigerians should resolve their electoral issues through established processes.
