Edo Migration Agency's Agazuma Warns of AI in Trafficking

Mr. Lucky Agazuma, the Director-General of the Edo Migration Agency, expressed concerns regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence by human traffickers to attract victims to impoverished countries. Speaking in Benin City during a three-day capacity-building workshop on the Risks and Realities of Migration, Agazuma highlighted that AI is being utilized to create misleading portrayals of destinations, making them appear appealing.
He noted that his recent visit to Burkina Faso to rescue trafficked victims revealed that Nigeria is a preferable place to live. Agazuma indicated that Kano State has surpassed Edo as the primary hub for human trafficking due to increased awareness and ongoing efforts against traffickers.
He urged parents to be vigilant and maintain open communication with their children to prevent them from falling prey to traffickers. Emeka Obieze, the National Coordinator of the Civil Society Network on Migration and Development, emphasized the importance of informing the public about migration policies.
