NDLEA Seizes 748kg of Illicit Drugs in Edo State

On April 23, 2026, the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a significant haul of illicit drugs weighing 748.02 kg. The operation took place on the Benin-Lagos Expressway, where a Mercedes Benz truck, marked with the Nigeria Labour Congress insignia and registered as NLC 146 FC, was stopped.

The truck was found to be transporting 95 cartons containing 1.196 million capsules of psychotropic substances en route to Onitsha, Anambra State. The seizure included 23 cartons of tramadol (100mg) weighing 264 kg, 40 cartons of tramadol (50mg) weighing 180 kg, seven cartons of rohypnol weighing 25.2 kg, 19 cartons of diazepam injectables weighing 242.82 kg, and six cartons of bromazepam weighing 36 kg.

Two suspects, Osagi Igbinibo (43) and Omiji Malik (44), were arrested in connection with the drug trafficking operation. Mitchel Ofoyeju, the NDLEA spokesperson, emphasized the agency's commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks and urged the public to report suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
