NDLEA Seizes N1.8bn Drugs in Edo State in Three Months

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the seizure of illicit drugs valued at N1.8 billion during the first three months of 2023. Command spokesperson Mitchel Ofoyeju presented the command's first-quarter scorecard in Benin City, detailing the recovery of 18,380 kilograms of narcotics, which included 12,556 kilograms of cannabis and 5,825 kilograms seized from various operations.

The command arrested 104 suspects, comprising 71 males and 33 females, through intelligence-led raids. Additionally, 36 convictions were secured in the Federal High Court in Benin City, with 32 males and 4 females among those convicted.

The agency also emphasized its anti-drug abuse education programs and rehabilitation efforts for drug-dependent clients. Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, recognized outstanding performances within the agency, awarding several officers for their contributions to the fight against drug trafficking.
