Edo State Requires Resignation of Public Servants for Elections

The Edo State Government has issued a directive requiring all public servants who intend to contest in the forthcoming electoral cycle to resign immediately. This measure, communicated by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with the amended Electoral Act of 2026.

The government emphasized that public office holders must resign before participating in party primaries to avoid disqualification by relevant electoral authorities. Governor Mondai Okpebholo reiterated the commitment to upholding constitutional rule and due process in matters related to political participation.

The directive also serves to promote fairness and transparency in the electoral process, safeguarding the integrity of public institutions. All ministries, departments, and agencies have been instructed to circulate this notice widely to ensure full compliance within the stipulated timeline.
