Edo State Mandates Resignation for Election-Seeking Officials

The Edo State Government, through a directive issued by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., the Secretary to the State Government, has ordered all public servants who wish to contest in the forthcoming elections to resign immediately. This measure is in accordance with the Electoral Act (Amendment) 2026 and is intended to promote fairness and transparency in the electoral process.

The directive emphasizes that public office holders must not engage in partisan politics that could compromise their official duties. Governor Mondai Okpebholo reiterated the government's commitment to upholding constitutional rule and due process in matters related to political participation.

The government has instructed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to circulate this notice widely to ensure full compliance within the stipulated timeline.
