Kano Governor Orders Appointees to Resign for Elections

On Wednesday, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Yusuf issued a directive requiring all political appointees who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign from their positions. This order aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act, specifically Section 88(1), which regulates the participation of public office holders in partisan political activities.

The statement, conveyed by the governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, emphasized the necessity for strict compliance with existing electoral laws. The official circular, signed by Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government, noted that the decision is part of efforts to promote neutrality, accountability, and integrity within the public service.

Furthermore, the governor directed ministries, departments, and agencies to disseminate the circular widely to ensure full compliance, reinforcing the state's commitment to aligning with electoral guidelines and enhancing the transparency of the political process ahead of the 2026 polls.
