Owan West Stakeholders Condemn Agbebaku's Impeachment Claim

Owan West stakeholders and concerned citizens of Edo State condemned the alleged transformation of Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku's resignation from the speakership of the Edo State House of Assembly into an impeachment.

They described this action as a serious abuse of legislative power and a threat to constitutional democracy. In a legal protest issued by Barrister Gordie Aigbodion, the stakeholders expressed concern that Agbebaku's voluntary resignation, which occurred before the House's subsequent action, was being misrepresented as an impeachment for political reasons.

They emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution outlines distinct procedures for resignation and impeachment, arguing that a voluntary resignation cannot be retroactively deemed an involuntary removal. The stakeholders demanded clarity from the Edo Assembly regarding the constitutional basis for its actions and warned that labeling a valid resignation as impeachment could undermine the political integrity of elected officials.

They called for the publication of Agbebaku's resignation letter and the details surrounding its acceptance.
