Edo State Investigates Worker Death Amid Factory Unrest

David Yelsa, an employee of Rongtai Group of Companies in Utesi, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State, died following an incident involving a faulty forklift he was operating. His death triggered protests from the local community, who accused the company of mishandling the situation by attempting to remove his body without proper procedures.

The protests escalated into violence, resulting in significant damage to the company's property. Dennis Idahosa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, confirmed that Governor Monday Okpebholo, currently in the United Kingdom, directed an assessment of the situation.

Idahosa visited the site, expressed concerns over inconsistencies in the accident's circumstances, and criticized the company's safety standards. He announced that the Ministries of Health, Labour, Public Safety, and Environment would conduct a thorough investigation into Yelsa's death, with findings to be reported to Governor Okpebholo.

Idahosa emphasized the importance of worker safety and the government's commitment to uncovering the truth.
