Edo State Schools Reopen After Security Threat Closure

The Edo State Government has announced the reopening of schools that were temporarily closed due to a security threat, as per a statement issued by Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamer, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The initial closure order was made on June 9, 2026, following intelligence reports indicating a possible security threat in the Edo North Senatorial District.

Schools are set to resume academic activities on June 15, 2026, after a thorough review of the security situation in collaboration with relevant security agencies and stakeholders. The government has stated that enhanced security measures will be implemented, including additional safety mechanisms deployed across affected communities to guarantee the safety of learners, teachers, and school personnel.

School heads and proprietors are directed to prepare adequately for the safe return of students and staff, while parents and guardians are urged to ensure their children return to school to continue academic activities.
