Edouard Mendy Retires from Senegal National Team

Edouard Mendy officially retired from the Senegal national football team on September 13, after an eight-year career with the Lions of Teranga. The Al-Ahli goalkeeper shared his decision via a video on Instagram, reflecting on memorable moments and expressing gratitude to Senegal.

Mendy debuted internationally in 2018 under coach Aliou Cisse and became a key player, amassing 59 caps, conceding 34 goals, and keeping 31 clean sheets. His most significant achievement was winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, where Senegal defeated Egypt to secure their first continental title.

Mendy also participated in the controversial 2025 AFCON final against Morocco, which ended with Senegal being stripped of the title. Throughout his career, he contributed to Senegal's qualification for two FIFA World Cups, playing in the 2022 tournament and set to return for the 2026 edition in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking his importance during a successful era for Senegalese football.
