EFCC Arrests Abuja House Agent for N288m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended Abuja-based house agent Hajia Adama Ahm Adamu for alleged property fraud involving N288 million. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, following a petition from Alhaji Tanko Yawal, who claimed that Adamu obtained the money under the pretext of facilitating the purchase of a property located at 31 Hail Selassi Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

The Ilorin Zonal Director of the EFCC disclosed that Adamu failed to provide valid documentation for the property after receiving the funds, which raised suspicions. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding property-related fraud in Nigeria's real estate sector, particularly in major cities like Abuja, where unsuspecting buyers often fall victim to agents posing as legitimate intermediaries.

The EFCC has intensified its enforcement against land and housing scams and has warned the public to verify property ownership documents before making payments.
