EFCC Arrests Nigerian-American for N434m Vehicle Fraud

Adegok Oluwatobi Adam, a Nigerian-American, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his alleged involvement in a cross-border vehicle import fraud amounting to $320,000, approximately N434.88 million. The EFCC's Ilorin Zonal Director stated that Adam holds dual citizenship in Nigeria and the United States.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he allegedly belonged to a syndicate based in the United States that defrauded unsuspecting Nigerian buyers. Adam reportedly advertised a 2024 Mercedes Benz G63 AMG to potential buyers in Nigeria, promising to purchase and ship the vehicle.

Two victims collectively paid $320,000, with one victim paying $145,000 and another $175,000 to intermediaries. The EFCC disclosed that Adam has a prior criminal record in the United States related to the illegal acquisition of vehicles.

He was arrested upon his return to Nigeria and will be arraigned once investigations are concluded.
