EFCC Arrests Nigerian-American in Vehicle Import Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Adegok Adam, a Nigerian-American, in connection with a cross-border vehicle import fraud. Adam, who holds dual citizenship in Nigeria and the United States, is accused of defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians out of approximately $320,000 (around N435.3 million) through false pretenses.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adam allegedly belonged to a syndicate based in the United States that specialized in defrauding Nigerians seeking to purchase imported vehicles. He reportedly advertised a 2024 Mercedes Benz G63 AMG to potential buyers in Nigeria, promising to facilitate the purchase and shipment of the luxury vehicle.

Two victims, Ikechukwu Osita Ifeabunik and Godson Azubuik Aman, reportedly paid a total of $320,000 for the vehicle, with Ifeabunik paying $145,000 and Aman paying $175,000. Further investigations uncovered Adam's prior criminal record related to the illegal acquisition of vehicles in the U.S.

He will be arraigned in court upon his return to Nigeria after ongoing investigations conclude.
