EFCC Secures Court Approval to Call Last Witness Against Emefiele

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been granted permission by the Federal Capital Territory High Court to call its last witness against former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele. The court ordered that a cost of N500,000 be paid by the EFCC to the defense.

Emefiele faces 20 counts of charges, including procurement fraud, breach of trust, forgery, and conspiracy to obtain money under false pretenses, specifically concerning a sum of N6,230,000 purportedly meant for international election observation during the 2023 general elections. The EFCC has already called 12 witnesses in its efforts to establish the charges against Emefiele.

The next court date is set for March 5, 2026, following multiple adjournments requested by the prosecution. Justice Hamza Muazu presided over the case, emphasizing the court's discretion in granting adjournments.
