EFCC Questions El-Rufai Amid Cybercrime Charges Filed

On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogated Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, concerning corruption allegations related to his tenure from 2015 to 2023. Accompanied by hundreds of supporters, El-Rufai arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) filed three counts of cybercrime charges against him in the Federal High Court, Abuja. These charges stem from a live interview on Arise TV on February 13, 2026, where El-Rufai allegedly admitted to unlawfully intercepting private communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The DSS claims this act constitutes a serious breach of Nigeria's cybercrime laws and poses a threat to national security. The charges were filed by Ernest on behalf of the DSS, and El-Rufai's refusal to be arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport last Thursday has raised further concerns regarding the ongoing investigation.
