EFCC Arrests Eight for Illegal Mining in Kwara

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested eight suspects and seized six trucks allegedly involved in illegal mining activities along the Ilorin-Ogbomoso axis in Kwara and Oyo states. The arrests took place on a Saturday, following credible intelligence that led to surveillance of unlawful mining operations in the area.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, these arrests bring the total number of individuals apprehended for illegal mining in the Ilorin zonal directorate to 18 within the last month. The suspects were intercepted alongside the six trucks, which were loaded with assorted minerals, including lithium and kaolin.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly operating without the requisite licenses, permits, or regulatory approvals for mining activities. They will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
