EFCC Recovers N125m from Land Fraud, Returns to Victim

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered N125 million allegedly obtained through land fraud and returned the money to the victim, Akinsewa Akiode, in Lagos. The recovery was a result of a petition by Akiode, who claimed that Olufemi Omoola Fashehun defrauded him under the pretext of selling a 550-square-metre parcel of land.

Akiode alleged that Fashehun concealed a pending court case regarding the property, which had been ongoing since 2011. Investigations by the EFCC revealed that Fashehun had been served with multiple court processes, including injunctions that prohibited him from constructing on the land, but he failed to disclose this information before accepting the payment.

As a result, Akiode lost both the property and the developments he had initiated on it. Following the investigation, the EFCC successfully recovered the N125 million from Fashehun and restituted it to Akiode through Sterling Bank drafts.

Bawa Usman Kaltungo, the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC in Lagos, reaffirmed the commission's commitment to addressing economic crimes and ensuring victims are compensated.
