EFCC Dismisses 40 Staff for Corruption Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has terminated the employment of 40 staff members due to their involvement in alleged corruption and financial malfeasance that could damage the agency's reputation. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed this during a meeting with media executives in Abuja, stating that more than five of the dismissed staff are currently facing prosecution.

He noted that case files for others are being prepared for legal action. Olukoyede emphasized the importance of maintaining high integrity standards among personnel while investigating and prosecuting corruption cases.

He mentioned that over the past two and a half to three years, he has requested the dismissal of over 40 staff for corruption-related issues. The EFCC has also introduced a gift policy to regulate the acceptance and declaration of gifts by staff, requiring personnel to declare assets above a specified threshold.

Additionally, the commission renamed its Department of Internal Affairs to the Department of Ethics and Integrity to strengthen internal accountability.
