EFCC Dismisses Over 40 Staff Amid Corruption Scandal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed more than 40 of its personnel due to alleged corruption and financial misconduct over the last two and a half years. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed this information on Monday, August 31, 2027, in Abuja during a meeting with media executives and journalists.

He stated that more than five of the dismissed officers are currently facing prosecution, with additional case files being prepared for legal action against other personnel. Olukoyede emphasized that the commission must maintain integrity among its staff to effectively combat corruption.

To strengthen accountability, the EFCC has introduced a new gift policy requiring personnel to declare gifts above a specified value, including those from relatives abroad. Furthermore, the former Department of Internal Affairs has been renamed the Department of Ethics and Integrity to enhance internal accountability and uphold the standards of integrity expected from individuals and organizations under investigation.
