EFCC to Discipline Officers Over UUTH Raid Incident

The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoye, stated that officers found to have acted outside professional standards during a raid at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) on May 12 will face disciplinary action. This incident involved the alleged assault of Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Eyo Ekp, and four staff members.

Following a preliminary review, Olukoye directed officials to issue an apology and acknowledged that the conduct of the operation did not reflect the standards expected of the commission. He expressed regret for the discomfort caused to hospital staff and the public.

A full investigation will be conducted, and any officers found culpable will face internal disciplinary measures. Olukoye reaffirmed the EFCC's commitment to tackling economic and financial crime while maintaining collaboration with relevant bodies to prevent future incidents.

The incident has drawn criticism from the medical community, with calls for accountability and compensation for affected staff.
