EFCC to Apologize to Uyo Hospital Staff After Raid

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), led by Chairman Ola Olukoye, announced plans to apologize to medical staff at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Cross River State after an incident involving EFCC personnel on May 12, 2026. This decision follows a preliminary review of the operation, which raised concerns among the medical community, including Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Eyo Ekp, and members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

Olukoye expressed regret over the discomfort caused by the episode, stating that it did not align with the standards expected of the commission. He confirmed that a full investigation would be conducted into the actions of the EFCC personnel, with disciplinary measures to follow if any misconduct is found.

Despite this incident, Olukoye reaffirmed the EFCC's commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes across Nigeria and emphasized the importance of collaboration with professional organizations like the NMA to combat corruption effectively.
