Civil Society Groups Demand EFCC Probe of Atiku Abubakar

Civil society organizations, specifically the Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Transparency and Accountability, have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into allegations against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This appeal was made during a rally in Abuja, where the coalition's convener, Comrade Solomon Adodo, highlighted that the objective was not to convict anyone in the court of public opinion but to promote transparency and accountability.

The coalition referenced past allegations and an EFCC investigation from 2005-2006, as well as a petition submitted in August 2026 requesting a review of the matter. They insisted that Atiku is entitled to due process and emphasized that public officials should not be above the law.

The coalition urged the EFCC to review historical investigative materials and communicate findings transparently to the public.
