Efik Professionals Demand Fair Oil Allocation in Cross River

The Efik Professionals Forum has called for equitable allocation of oil wells in Cross River State, praising Governor Bassei Otu for his ongoing scientific verification of oil well attributes. In a statement made by the forum's chairman, Dr.

Bassei Okon, on Tuesday in Calabar, the group expressed strong support for Otu's evidence-based approach to resolving issues that have historically impacted the Efik community's economy. They highlighted the economic consequences faced by the Efik community due to past administrative decisions regarding oil allocation, particularly following the Bakassi development.

The forum also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing an inter-agency technical committee to conduct an independent verification process, stressing that this will enhance transparency and cooperation among federal groups. They noted that Cross River State is facing significant fiscal challenges due to oil allocation not being grounded in comprehensive hydrographic reservoir-based scientific verification, which is essential for infrastructure development and industrial growth.
