Contractor Dies During Maintenance at Egbin Power Plant

Egbin Power PLC, Nigeria's largest electricity generation company, confirmed the death of a contractor during maintenance operations at its Lagos-based facility. The incident occurred on Tuesday around 8:00 PM when a diver engaged in underwater operations inside the plant's lagoon water pump system reportedly fell into the water.

The diver was tragically caught and impelled by the running pump, leading to his death. Following the incident, operations at the plant were immediately suspended to ensure safety protocols were followed, resulting in a broader shutdown of the facility.

Egbin Power PLC operates as a joint venture involving Sahara Power Group and Kepco. The company has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and has notified relevant law enforcement agencies.

Felix Ofulu, head of corporate communications at Egbin, expressed the company's sorrow and extended condolences to the family of the deceased contractor, emphasizing their commitment to health and safety standards.
