Joeboy: Ego and Competition Hinder Nigerian Artist Collaborations

In a recent interview with Cool FM in Lagos, Afrobeat singer Joeboy discussed the detrimental impact of ego and competition on collaborations among Nigerian artists. He noted that many artists approach collaborations with a competitive mindset, aiming to outshine one another rather than fostering a cooperative spirit.

Joeboy prefers to collaborate with artists with whom he has a cordial relationship, as this helps prevent potential conflicts of interest and makes the collaboration process smoother. He pointed out that when artists are overly focused on competition, it can interfere with the creative process, leading to issues such as re-recording parts of a song to make them sound better than a collaborator's contribution.

Joeboy stressed that collaborations should bring different aspects to a song rather than serve as a platform for competition, highlighting that artists should work together harmoniously rather than viewing each other as rivals.
